Determined to create change, we came together in 2011 to form Delta Housing Be Mine Society. Since then, we’ve been working to build a future where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities have access to housing that reflects their needs, dignity, and independence. Through community programs, government engagement, and research, we’re committed to driving meaningful change and helping shape a more inclusive Delta, and beyond. In 2016, we did a survey of adults with intellectual disabilities who were living in Delta. We wanted to know about their housing needs. At the time, there were no inclusive housing options available in Delta. Would these young adults be willing to relocate to another community for long-term inclusive housing? |
Download our ReportThe 2016 DHBMS Housing Survey revealed that 83% of Delta's adults with intellectual disabilities were living with family. In other words, many were dependent upon aging parents for housing. Were would they live in the future? We were not surprised to learn that 90% of them wanted to stay in Delta. |
